No this isn’t a zombie apocalypse.
In all seriousness, have you attended a special event/party/stayed until closing at the Magic Kingdom lately? It can be a nightmare getting out of the park. Did you park at the Transportation and Ticket Center parking lot? Oh boy, then you are in for an adventure! We’ve been one of those people stuck in a huge crowd waiting to get back to the parking lot. We started trying different ways to get out of the park to avoid the crowds.
Best option: Take the Monorail/Ferry directly to the Transportation and Ticket Center
If it isn’t too busy, the best option is to simply take the monorail or ferry back to the Transportation and Ticket Center. Sometimes we’ve had no issues with this regular route.
Not the best option: Wait in really long lines for the Monorail/Ferry
The worst option is to be stuck in those really long lines for the monorail and ferry. Who wants to wait in that?!
Need some other suggestions? Here are our cheats to beat the crowds while leaving Magic Kingdom:
1. Walk to the Contemporary Resort –> Monorail –> Transportation and Ticket Center
The Contemporary Resort is a 5-10 minute walk from the front gates of Magic Kingdom. Once inside, head upstairs to the monorail boarding station. This monorail is coming from the Magic Kingdom and is headed toward the Transportation and Ticketing Center. We’ve found that the cast members at Magic Kingdom reserve a couple empty cars just for guests at the Contemporary when everyone is trying to leave Magic Kingdom at closing; therefore, you shouldn’t have to wait too long to get on the monorail. This is our preferred route, and we take it often!
2. Bus –> Transportation and Ticket Center
There is often a bus waiting at Magic Kingdom that transports guests directly to the Transportation and Ticket Center. It might not always be in service so check with a cast member stationed at the bus depot. This is a very simple and direct route to the parking lot. We take the bus whenever it is available.
3. Resort Ferry –> Resort –> Monorail –> Transportation and Ticket Center
Our third suggestion is to take a boat ride to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian Resorts, and hop on the monorail. This is our least favorite route since the monorail has to go back through the Magic Kingdom, to the Contemporary Resort, and finally to the Transportation and Ticket Center. This route definitely takes longer than our other two suggestions but at least you don’t have to wait in the long lines!
